the DIY: FRINGE WEDGES

Days like today make me wish Casey and I had the same size foot. Unfortunately, we do not. Casey had these wedges that we had been meaning to change up for quite some time. So it seemed like perfect timing when Pippa from Buzzfeed Shift asked us to participate in a Craft Wars challenge. The challenge: Transform a pair of basic shoes. Our shoes- open toe wedges. We will let you know when the project is posted on Buzzfeed so you can go vote for us!

These are the shoes we started out with. They are pretty cute just like this but we wanted to add something fun!

These are some old boots that Casey was planning on getting rid of. We decided to keep them for the leather.

Photobucket
We cut out a square piece from each boot.

Photobucket
Then we spray painted the leather with a gold paint.

Photobucket
We made sure the pieced were the same dimensions. About 6 inches by 8 inches.

Photobucket
On the inside of the leather, place a line of super glue at the top.

Photobucket
Carefully place the top of the leather around the edge of the shoe. Secure the leather with clothespins until the glue has dried.

Photobucket
Time to cut fringe! We cut little notches along the edge to make sure we cut the fringe evenly.

Photobucket
Trim the bottom of the fringe so that it doesn't touch the ground when the shoe is upright.

Photobucket
We cut each fringe piece in half to create smaller fringe.

Photobucket
And done! This project was pretty simple and fast.

And these shoes look pretty ballin' when you are walking in them! Like fa rizzle... these shoes were made for walking.

Ok guys, don't forget to vote for us.  We checked out our competition and they did a great job, but we think we have the most original idea.  Please vote for our originality :) Thanks!

  1. So cute! I love adding fringes to things haha :)

I wonder if there is a way to do this with flats or maybe a pair of boots. Hmm...
